8/20/2008:
<> Thanks to all the
volunteers, sponsors, police officers,
Natatorium staff and Hemsi folks for their help in making the
triathlon a success this year. Special thanks to Jim Oaks who spent
many hours on seeding and results compilation. Also to James
Falcon and Rick Greif who taught the Beginner's Clinic. We had terrific
weather for the triathlon and fortunately no downpoor. We had a large
number of teams compete this year and two records were broken. "The
Dingos" broke the youth team record by one minute and 20 seconds. The
"Asbury Fast Masters" team broke the masters record by 36 seconds.
Congratulations to those teams.
Hope to see all of you back again next year.
8/14/2008:
<> I posted the heat
assignments. See "confirmed entries". Race numbers can be picked up
today and tommorrow at Fleet Feet. Those of you who signed up on-line
must sign a waiver when you pick up your packet. If someone picks up
the packet for your (e.g. teams), then you must sign a waiver at the
packet pickup table Saturday morning (near body marking). Children
signed up on-line must also have a parent sign the waiver.
Consistent with other triathlons, we decided to rank starters based on
their run time without regard to gender or team status. We also made
our best attempt to satisfy all of the "run with" requests.
8/10/2008:
<> Thank you for your
patience with the registration process. See the "confirmed entries"
page for what should be the final list of participants. I am sorry that some of you were not able
to enter. I turned down a number of people because we filled up early.
We have a large number of teams this year (59 total).
We still need some volunteers so please send an email if you can help.
8/08/2008:
<> Registration is now closed. Please
remember to pick up your race packets at Fleet Feet http://www.fleetfeethuntsville.com/
on Thursday or Friday. We will also have packet pickup at the cross
country park Saturday AM prior to the race. Later this week we will
post the seeding of heats.
8/05/2008:
<> We have 427confirmed starters now.
Registration will close at 500. Don't wait much longer if you plan to
join us. On-line registration will close on Saturday (or earlier if we
reach our limit) . We still need a number of volunteers. Let me know if
you can help out. We need course monitors, sweepers, and help with
packet pick-up, aid stations, and parking.
7/26/2008:
<> 282 individuals and 34 teams
are confirmed now. View the "Confirmed Entries"
page to verify your registration. Send me an email if something looks
incorrect. Do not wait till the last minute to register. Last year I
was forced to turn away a number of people after the event was
full. We have 316 starters now and we will close registration at
500 starters.
<> Someone has brought to my
attention that speed bumps have been installed on Baywood. Bikes can
still pass single-file through the gap in the center of the road.
Drafting is not allowed in triathlons, so the bumps should not cause a
serious problem. In most cases bikes will be single-file and
separated by several bike lengths. However, be aware of the bumps and
slow down appropriately if necessary.
<> Note that headphones are not
permitted by participants during the triathlon. This is a USATF rule
and the HTC is a USATF member club. PERSONS CAUGHT USING
HEADPHONES DURING THE EVENT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. THEIR NAMES WILL BE
REMOVED FROM THE RESULTS. THEY WILL NOT BE ELLIGIBLE FOR AWARDS AND
WILL RECEIVE NO REFUND. Headphones are dangerous to the athlete
and to other competitors. Please leave them at home or in your car.
7/20/2008:
<> We have nearly 200
confirmed entries now. View the "Confirmed Entries"
page to verify your registration.
<>The "BEGINNER'S
CLINIC" continues
Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM. You are welcome to join us at any
time.
<> Those of you who cannot compete
this year or are coming to watch, please consider volunteering. It
takes over 100 people to put on an event like this. We need bike course
monitors, body markers, run course monitors, and people to help at the
Natatorium (prepare food, handle finish cards, hand out T-shirts,
setup, teardown). Thank you.
7/06/2008:
<> Thanks to those of you who have
registered early. We have nearly 100
confirmed entries now, including 3 teams. View the "Confirmed Entries"
page to verify your registration. Do not wait until the last minute to
register, last year we filled up prior to the registration deadline.
<>The "BEGINNER'S
CLINIC" starts this
Tuesday evening (July 8, 5:30 PM)
at the cross country park. Anyone who is
new to triathlons (or
just wants to learn more about preparing and training) is welcome. See
the Beginner's
Clinic page for
details. Rick Greif volunteered to lead our first session. Rick
is director of the Heel & Crank
Duathlon in October.

OUT-OF-TOWNERS: The Radisson Suite Hotel and the Hilton Garden Inn
